Fare Cinema. Italian Summer Cinema in Riga

Splendid1

From late May to late August, 26 screenings at Splendid Palace Cinema in Riga. Tickets available online.

Italian cinema takes center stage once again in Latvia with the film series “Fare Cinema. Italian Summer Cinema in Riga”, organized by Splendid Palace Cinema with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Riga. The initiative is part of Fare Cinema, the annual event promoted worldwide by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and its diplomatic and cultural network, aimed at showcasing Italian cinema and its professionals.

From 29 May to 28 August 2025, a total of 26 open-air screenings are scheduled to take place in the square outside Splendid Palace Cinema. The lineup features four landmark titles of Italian cinema, spanning from timeless classics to contemporary works: “Roma” by Federico Fellini, “Marriage Italian Style” by Vittorio De Sica, “There’s Still Tomorrow” by Paola Cortellesi, and “Parthenope” by Paolo Sorrentino.

“Since the post-war period, cinema has accompanied Italy on its path of cultural and economic development, serving as both a mirror of society and a means through which Italians have been able to recognize themselves, question themselves, and present themselves to the world,” said the Ambassador of Italy to Riga, Alessandro Monti. “It is not just about art or entertainment: cinema has helped shape a shared national identity and continues to be, today as in the past, a powerful medium through which Italy tells its story. The films featured at Splendid Palace are an excellent example of how our cinema still combines emotion and reflection to connect with its audiences with strength and authenticity.”

Italian cinema is greatly appreciated in Latvia, as also highlighted by the artistic director of Splendid Palace Cinema, Daira Āboliņa: “At the height of the Latvian summer, this year’s outdoor cinema program pays tribute to Italy with classic and contemporary titles that embody the charm, character effervescent humor, and cultural impact of Italy’s cinematic tradition.”

The screenings will be accompanied by Italian-themed food and drinks, thanks to the support of local partners Campari and VinaStudija Splendid. The screening schedule is published monthly on the Splendid Palace website, where showtimes can be consulted and tickets purchased. In case of bad weather, the screenings will be held inside the cinema.
