On 2 June, the Italian Embassy in Riga celebrated Republic Day with a reception at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, which is currently hosting the exhibition “In the name of Clay, 50 years of Italian ceramic art”, organised in collaboration with the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza (MIC).
Around 300 guests attended the traditional event, including representatives from Latvian institutions and the economic, cultural and academic sectors, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and the Italian community in Latvia. The ceremony opened with a solemn performance of the Italian and Latvian national anthems, followed by the European anthem, sung by the talented opera singer Darija Kildiša, accompanied by harpist Elizabete Gulbe, in a performance that successfully conveyed the intensity and emotion of the solemn occasion.
Ambassador Monti, in greeting the guests present, reaffirmed the depth of the bond between Italy and Latvia, founded on shared values, strategic cooperation and a shared vision of the European future, as well as the importance of the rich and multifaceted collaboration between the two countries across all sectors. The Ambassador further reiterated Italy’s unanimous support for Ukraine, its sovereignty and its European values in the current international context, which is fragmented and marked by serious conflicts.
