“Italian companies are protagonists of this project”, comments Ambassador Monti at the ceremony at the Latvian National Library.
More than 500 people gathered at the Latvian National Library on Tuesday for the sod-cutting ceremony of Rail Baltica’s main line in Latvia. By 2030 the project will connect the three Baltic capitals via high speed railway with each other and with the rest of the European railway system. The value of the works taking place in Latvia is estimated at around 3,7 million euros, financed by the EU for more than 85%. Among the companies carrying out the project there are also important Italian groups including Rizzani de Eccher, Italferr and Sitagma.
“Our companies are on the forefront of this project” commented Ambassador of Italy to Latvia Alessandro Monti, taking part in the ceremony. “High speed railway will help Latvia to become more secure, more connected and more sustainable”.
Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens and Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens also attended the ceremony, together with representatives of the European Commission and France and Poland – whose companies Eiffage and Budimex are also part of the joint venture with Rizzani de Eccher. During the event a “time capsule” was assembled to be embedded at the construction site with objects and messages for the future generations.
