Italian Foreign Minister spoke at the Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem

On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani said, “Italy is on the front line, alongside Israel, against antisemitism: this is what I have repeated to the Israeli representatives I have met in Jerusalem in the last few days. These shameful regurgitations of antisemitism that are spreading as a consequence of the ongoing conflict cannot be tolerated in any way: this year, even more so, we must counter them everywhere, in every way, and intensify our efforts to preserve the Memory of the Shoah”.

During his recent mission to the Middle East, on Thursday 25th September the Deputy Prime Minister participated as a guest of honor in the ceremony held in Jerusalem at the Yad Vashem, the memorial to the genocide of the Jews. He also participated yesterday in the celebrations at the Quirinale Palace at the presence of President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.

Tajani added that “This year’s Holocaust Remembrance Day has a special value: the memory of this tragedy must remain alive also in the new generations, as an indispensable prerequisite to preserve the founding values of our Republic and our European home, built on common Jewish-Christian roots.”

The principles that inspire the Italian Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are the opposite of the totalitarian and racist universe that led to the Holocaust. Today, in the international scenario following the tragic events of October 7, we are unfortunately witnessing increasing and unacceptable episodes of antisemitism, violence against members of the Jewish community and widespread attempts to trivialize, deny and distort what happened, which feed on old and new stereotypes.
