PASOLINI CELEBRATIONS BEGIN AT THE RIGA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

The Riga International Film Festival celebrates the life and work of Pier Paolo Pasolini with a special retrospective on the year of the director’s 100th birthday. The initiative is promoted by the Embassy of Italy in Riga and includes four screening of Pasolini’s most famous movies from October 15 to 23. The first Latvian translation of Pasolini’s book “The street kids” will also be presented during the Festival.

“Pasolini has been a gifted artist and versatile intellectual – loved and controversial at the same time. He was radically ahead of his time and he managed to identify and describe many of the issues and contradictions of our modern societies” commented the Ambassador of Italy in Latvia, Alessandro Monti, during an interview with LTV1, the main

Latvian television network.

Screenings of the Pasolini retrospective will take place at the Splendid Palace cinema in central Riga according to the following programme: 15 October, “Teorema” and “The street kids” book presentation; 16 October, “Medea”; 22 October, “Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma”; 23 October, “Decameron”. Movies are available for online streaming on the Riga International Film Festival website.
