Press Conference with Minister of Culture Lāce and Chargé d’Affaires Palmieri

On April 24 2025 a press event was held to present the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale and Latvia’s participation in the event, titled “Defence Landscape.”

The event was attended by Latvia’s Minister of Culture, Agnese Lāce, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Italy in Riga, Federico Palmieri, and the curators of the Latvian Pavilion, Liene Jākobsone and Ilka Ruby. The event was moderated by the Commissioner of the Latvian Pavilion, architect Jānis Dripe.

“Cultural initiatives such as participation in the Venice Biennale allow us to reach an international audience, serving as effective instruments of cultural diplomacy,” stated Minister Lāce.

During the event, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Italy, Federico Palmieri, read a message from the President of the Venice Biennale, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco (available at this link). He then emphasized the value that Italy places on the Biennale as “a meeting place and platform for dialogue among creatives unmatched anywhere in the world.”

The 19th International Architecture Exhibition will be held from May 10 to November 23, 2025, with pre-opening days on May 8 and 9, at the Giardini, the Arsenale, and Forte Marghera. Curated by Carlo Ratti, the 2025 edition is titled “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.” and aims to explore intelligence in all its forms, promoting an inclusive and transdisciplinary approach to architecture.
