Press release

The Embassy of Italy in Riga presents the program of in/sostenibile – Italian Language Week in Latvia 2023, taking place from October 16 to 20, 2023.

Transitioning from unsustainable to sustainable lifestyles: this will be the topic of the events of the Week, with a special focus on how Italian language can not only describe this historical change, but help shaping it. Ultimately, going from “sostenibile” to “insostenibile” is just a matter of two letters: a small step, like the many changes we could bring in our daily lives to make them more in line with the need of our planet. But, at the same time, a challenge we are all called to face, so to ensure social justice and continuing development”, underlines Ambassedor of Italy to Latvia, Alessandro Monti. “The program of the Italian Language Week in Latvia is an invitation to go deeper in understanding the challenges posed by the climate crisis and to acknowlede its complexity“.

The events of the Week are organised in partnership with the Riga Technical University and the Art Academy of Latvia. Exhibitions, lectures, concerts – with numerous initiatives mainly aimed at younger audiences, as youth will be the main protagonist of our societies. The Week will also be the occasion to formally open the RTU Latvian-Italian Cooperation Centre, which will also organise Italian language courses for the Latvian public, with a special focus on young people.

The Week will close with the inauguration event of Fashion Panorama – The Italian New Wave, a new exhibition promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and curated by Vogue Italia, to present a new generation of Italian designers, whose work also focuses on the issue of sustainability. The exhibition is realised by the Embassy of Italy in Riga and the Italian Trade Agency, in collaboration with Riga Fashion Week. It will be open for visitors at the Ola Foundation complex from October 21 to November 20, 2023.
