The Ambassador of Italy in Latvia, Alessandro Monti, visited earlier today Riga’s Ghetto Museum on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Ambassador visited the museum together with Museum curator Yuliya Tereshchenko.
“We remember the Holocaust not only to honour the victims of the greatest tragedy in our common European history: we do so also to reflect on the horrific and unjustified suffering antisemitism – as all forms of prejudice and collective hatred – are still able to cause today all around the world.”, Ambassador Monti stressed during the visit.
During the day, Ambassador Monti is also participating in the memorial ceremony taking place in the Bikernieki forest, where he joined members of the diplomatic corps in laying a wreath at the monument honouring the 70.000 Latvian Jews killed during the Holocaust.
