The series of ten public conversations aimed at showcasing the contemporary cultural and creative scenes of Italy and Latvia has concluded. An original project by the Italian Embassy in Riga.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Caff\u00e8 Young Italy<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0project, promoted by the Italian Embassy in Riga, has successfully concluded. With ten events held between August and December, the initiative highlighted the dialogue between tradition and innovation, engaging a predominantly young audience and receiving enthusiastic feedback from partners and participants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to have presented a dynamic Italy, capable of uniting tradition and contemporaneity,\u201d commented the Italian Ambassador to Riga, Alessandro Monti. \u201cI would like to thank all the partners of this project, both Italian and Latvian, for their outstanding work: this is just the beginning of future collaborations between Italy and Latvia.\u201d<\/p>\n

With an average participation of over 150 people per event\u201460% under the age of 35\u2014the project exceeded expectations, consolidating Italy\u2019s role as a promoter of culture and creativity in Latvia. The co-curation approach adopted by the Embassy received widespread acclaim from the Latvian cultural institutions involved, laying a solid foundation for future collaborations.<\/p>\n

The project was supported by the\u00a0Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation<\/strong>\u00a0as part of the initiative\u00a0\u201cCapitals of Italian Creativity Abroad \u2013 Festival of Italy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Events<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ten\u00a0Caff\u00e8 Young Italy<\/strong>\u00a0events brought together young Italian and Latvian talents under 35, active in various sectors.<\/p>\n

The series opened on\u00a0August 31, 2024<\/strong>, with a discussion on performing arts. The meeting between Agata and Teodora Castellucci of the Dewey Dell collective and directors and playwrights Art\u016brs Cukurs, Beate Poik\u0101ne, and Katr\u012bna D\u016bka explored the relationship between the performing arts, experimentation, and contemporary culture, as part of Riga\u2019s \u201cHomo Novus\u201d festival.<\/p>\n

Next came the\u00a0visual arts<\/strong>: on\u00a0September 6<\/strong>, the conversation between Italian artist Monia Ben Hamouda and Latvian artist L\u012bga Spunde, hosted by the \u201cSurvival Kit\u201d festival, delved into themes of identity and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n

October featured three events. On\u00a0October 16<\/strong>, a session on\u00a0information<\/strong>\u00a0brought journalist Silvia Boccardi and expert Tomass Pildegovi\u010ds together at the Riga Conference\u2019s Future Leaders Forum, focusing on combating disinformation and hybrid threats.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0October 18<\/strong>, during the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the spotlight was on\u00a0literature<\/strong>. A conversation between writer Alice Urciuolo and young author Gusts \u0100bele, organized in collaboration with the Latvian Academy of Culture, examined the representation of youth in contemporary narratives.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0October 30<\/strong>, the topic was\u00a0fashion<\/strong>: a dialogue between historian Matteo Augello and designer Laima Jur\u010da, featured in Riga Fashion Week and organized with the Latvian Academy of Art, discussed the relationship between heritage and creativity.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0November 14<\/strong>, during the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the focus turned to\u00a0food and wine<\/strong>: young chefs Matteo Corridori and Edgars Dz\u0113rve explored the balance between culinary tradition and innovation.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0December<\/strong>, four events concluded the project. On\u00a0December 5<\/strong>,\u00a0innovation<\/strong>\u00a0took center stage: researcher Tommaso Scquizzato and entrepreneur and trainer El\u012bna Mi\u0137elsone discussed creativity and science at Riga Technical University.<\/p>\n

The next event, on\u00a0December 11<\/strong>, addressed\u00a0security<\/strong>: young officers Ugo Belcaro and Art\u016brs Mudelis explored topics such as national security, military life, and cooperation between Italy and Latvia within NATO.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0December 13<\/strong>, the spotlight was on\u00a0cinema<\/strong>: Italian actress Marta Gastini and Latvian director and producer Mat\u012bss Ka\u017ea shared their experiences in the audiovisual world during the NICE Italian Film Festival in Riga, hosted at the Splendid Palace cinema.<\/p>\n

The final event, dedicated to\u00a0technology<\/strong>, took place on\u00a0December 17<\/strong>: researcher Valeria Fumagalli and startup founder Keita Augstkalne discussed biomedical innovations and digital applications for healthcare, once again at Riga University.<\/p>\n
