On 19th April 2024 Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi met with the State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Culture, Dace Vilsone, in Venice on the occasion of the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. The meeting focused on the very positive phase of Italy-Latvia cultural relations, as witnessed by the success of recent initiatives by the Embassy of Italy in Riga, and with a discussion of future cooperation projects for 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n
Latvia at the Venice Biennale<\/strong><\/p>\n Latvia takes part in the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale with “O day and night, but this is wondrous strange… and therefore as a stranger give it welcome” by Amanda Ziemele, curated by Adam Budak. More info is available on the pavillion’s official website<\/a> and on the Venice Biennale’s portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n Born in 1990, Ziemele is one of the main Latvian contemporary artists. She holds a degree from the Art Academy of Latvia and in 2021 she was awarded the Purvitis Prize. Her artistic practice focuses on site-specific interventions aimed at triggering thought associations in the audience, also via humorous strategies inviting the paradoxical.
