{"id":6128,"date":"2024-07-02T11:58:30","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T08:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambriga.esteri.it\/?page_id=6128"},"modified":"2026-07-31T14:49:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T11:49:24","slug":"marriage","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambriga.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/marriage\/","title":{"rendered":"Marriage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In order to proceed with the transcription of the a marriage celebrated abroad your wife <strong>must be registered in Italy at the municipality where the applicant is registered with AIRE or their municipality of residence \u00a0in Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If both spouses are Italian and belong to different municipalities, each spouse must submit their own application and the related documentation, which will be forwarded separately to both municipalities.<\/p>\n<p>The interested party will submit the following documentation to the consular office of this Embassy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambriga.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Mod.-trascrizione-MATRIMONIO.docx\">Registration applicant form<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Original of the marriage certificate complete with a standard multilingual form issued by the local authorities (Latvian Civil Registry Office);<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the identity document of both spouses:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>REQUEST FOR PUBLICATION OF THE MARRIAGE NOTICES FOR A WEDDING TO BE CELEBRATED IN ITALY:<\/p>\n<p>Please note that all marriage procedures must be initiated well in advance (6 months in advanced is recommended in case of marriage in Italy) to allow for the statutory checks required by law.<\/p>\n<p>The wedding publications (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mandatory for the wedding to be celebrated in Italy<\/span>) <strong>must be requested in person<\/strong> at the Consulate (if at least one of the Italian spouses resides abroad). Publications can also be requested directly from the Italian municipality, if one of the spouses resides in Italy. Publications must remain posted on the Consular Register for at least 8 days. After a further 4 days, the Consulate issues the Italian Municipality a authorisation to celebrate the marriage (or a certificate of publication, in the case of a Holy marriage with civil recognition).<\/p>\n<p>In order to request a pubblication, the following documents must be submitted:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FOR LATVIAN SPOUSES:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copies of identity documents \u2013 passport or identity card;<\/li>\n<li>Authenticated copy of the birth certificate with certified translation into Italian (the original is to be presented for inspection only);<\/li>\n<li>Certificate of civil status with Italian translation;<\/li>\n<li>Authorisation of marriage issued by the respective competent Authorities in the country of origin, with a certified translation into Italian;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambriga.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/modulo_richiesta_pubblicazioni_di_matrimonio.doc\">Request Form for publicationsm<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambriga.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Dichiarazione-Sostitutiva-di-Certificazione.pdf\">Substitute statement of certification<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FOR ITALIAN SPOUSES:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copies of identity documents \u2013 passport or identity card<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambriga.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/modulo_richiesta_pubblicazioni_di_matrimonio.doc\">Publication request form<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ambriga.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Dichiarazione-Sostitutiva-di-Certificazione.pdf\">Substitute certification declaration<\/a>;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once all the documentation has been acquired, and if no further documents are needed, by making an appointment at the Consulate through the portal <a href=\"https:\/\/prenotami.esteri.it\/\">Prenot@mi<\/a> you can sign the detailed request form for the publication.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Holy marriage with civil recognition:<\/p>\n<p>In case of Holy marriage with civil recognition (civil and Catholic celebration) the spouses <strong>must also submit, in addition, the request for publications from the parish priest responsible for the celebration of the marriage<\/strong> (pursuant to Art. 6 L. 847\/1929) and not of the parish to which they currently belong.
