Born in Rome in 1967, Alessandro Monti grows up between Ostia Lido and Athens. After studying at Liceo Anco Marzio in Ostia, he graduates in Political Science at the University of Perugia in 1990.<\/p>\n

After performing mandatory military service as reserve officer in the Italian Army, Monti enters the diplomatic service in 1993 and starts his career at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs\u2019 Office for Disarmament and Arms Control.<\/p>\n

From 1994 to 1997 he serves as First Vice Consul at the Consulate General of Italy in Stuttgart, Germany for his first posting abroad. From 1997 to 2001 he is posted at the Italian Embassy in Bucharest, Romania.<\/p>\n

In 2001 he is back at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he is appointed Deputy Head of Office and, in 2006, Head of Office for Central and Eastern European Affairs \u2013 responsible for Latvia as well. In this period, Monti is involved in the preparation of Italian President Ciampi\u2019s State Visit in Riga (April 21-24, 2004) and Latvian President Vike-Freiberga\u2019s State Visit in Rome (June 27-30, 2005).<\/p>\n

In 2006 Monti is appointed Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Italy in Teheran, Iran. In September 2010 he returns to Rome where he serves as Head of Office for the Countries of the Persian Gulf and the Arabic Peninsula. From 2018 to 2022 he serves as Consul General of Italy in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation.<\/p>\n

He starts his mandate as the Ambassador of Italy in Riga, Latvia on March 29, 2022.<\/p>\n

Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Cavaliere dell\u2019Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana) since 2003.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Monti is married to a fellow diplomat, currently serving in Rome, with three adult children.
