23rd and 24th January: “International Training Seminar on Reduction of Shadow Economy Related to Turnover of Cultural Objects”

On the 23rd and 24th January, at the Latvian School of Public Administration in Riga, a seminar on protection of cultural property took place whose title was “International Training Seminar on Reduction of Shadow Economy Related to Turnover of Cultural Objects”.

Among the experts that participated to this event, realized also thanks to the support of the Embassy of Italy in Riga, there was Maj. Alfio Gullotta, Head of the Training and Study Unit of the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, and Corrado Catesi, Coordinator of Works of Art Unit in the General Secretariat in Lyon.

During the seminar, the importance of the protection of national cultural heritage was underlined, since cultural heritage is part of the history of the nation directly involved and of the whole global society. In fact, an archaeological artifact has a value that is not only economic, but also scientific and historical. Furthermore, the key to address the problem of illegal smuggling of object of art is cooperation and passage of information among states, made possible also thanks to the use of digital databases.
